Obi destabilises parties, not solution for 2027 — Omokri

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has criticised former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, urging northern voters to reconsider backing him ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omokri, in a statement shared via his X handle on Sunday, argued that Obi’s history of defecting across political parties raises concerns about his consistency and reliability.

His remarks followed Obi’s recent exit from the African Democratic Congress, where the former governor cited internal crises and external interference as reasons for his resignation.

Reacting, Omokri alleged that political parties joined by Obi were largely stable before his entry but later became embroiled in internal disputes.

“Every party he has joined was relatively peaceful until his arrival. After that, crises emerged,” he stated.

He further argued that Obi’s repeated movement from one platform to another reflects a pattern rather than coincidence, insisting that the issue lies with the politician, not the parties.

According to Omokri, Obi has a history of making public commitments to remain in political parties, only to later withdraw from them, a development he said should raise doubts among voters.

He also questioned the credibility of Obi’s pledge to serve a single term if elected president, asking whether such a promise could be trusted given his track record.

In his analysis, Omokri said northern Nigeria faces critical challenges, including rising insecurity linked to out-of-school children, while identifying agriculture as a key strength that requires strategic leadership.

The diplomat also took a swipe at Obi’s tenure as governor, alleging limited impact in key sectors such as education and agriculture.
