Popular socialite and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has said President Bola Tinubu still views him with suspicion over his support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Cubana Chief Priest, who currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the Pro-Tinubu City Boys Movement, made the remark during a livestream session with popular streamer Peller.
In a video circulating online on Wednesday, the nightlife entrepreneur said his ethnic background and previous political stance may have contributed to what he described as lingering distrust from the Presidency.
“President Bola Tinubu no really trust me as an Igbo man that I am. He look me with one eye because he believes that this one that worked for Peter Obi before during the last election,” he said.
The socialite explained that he later aligned with Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress because he did not want to remain on the losing side politically.
According to him, his decision was based on political reality and the desire to support what he considered a stronger political camp ahead of future elections.
Cubana Chief Priest also dismissed Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential race, describing the former Anambra State governor as “not serious” while insisting that “serious people” would eventually emerge victorious.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users accusing him of political opportunism, while others described his remarks as a reflection of Nigeria’s highly competitive political environment.
The socialite was one of Obi’s vocal supporters during the 2023 elections but has recently pitched his tent with the APC. He had also obtained a House of Representatives nomination form under the party before withdrawing from the contest on the day of the primary election.
