The governorship candidate of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, Sunday Garba Biggs, has criticised Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration, declaring that the governor has not done enough to merit re-election in 2027.
Biggs, a retired permanent secretary and fellow indigene of Mangu Local Government Area, made the remarks while reacting to the governor’s third anniversary in office.
In a statement issued on Sunday through his media team, the PDP candidate accused the Mutfwang administration of falling short of public expectations, particularly in addressing insecurity, economic challenges and development concerns across the state.
According to him, Plateau residents had high hopes when Mutfwang assumed office, owing to the broad support he received from citizens across ethnic and religious lines. However, he argued that many residents are now disappointed with the administration’s performance.
Biggs maintained that despite sharing the same local government with the governor, he would not refrain from speaking out on issues affecting the state.
“The people of Plateau State celebrated his emergence as governor, but leadership must ultimately be judged by performance and impact,” he said.
He stressed that governance should be driven by accountability rather than personal relationships or ethnic considerations, adding that no public office holder should expect continued support without delivering tangible results.
The governorship hopeful further alleged that Mangu Local Government Area, which produced the governor, had not witnessed significant development under the current administration.
He argued that future leadership should be determined by competence, capacity and the ability to address the needs of the people, rather than by sentiment or place of origin.
Biggs insisted that Plateau State requires focused and effective leadership capable of tackling its pressing challenges and improving the welfare of residents.
The criticism comes as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with contenders beginning to position themselves for key contests across the country.
