The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Jimoh Ibrahim, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his recent trip to the United Kingdom, describing the visit as both timely and strategic.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the lawmaker representing Ondo South said the visit came at a critical time when global alliances are undergoing changes, noting that Nigeria must continue to play an active role in international relations.
He observed that Tinubu’s engagement with King Charles III highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Ibrahim noted that the visit is expected to boost collaboration between both countries in key sectors, including trade, investment, and security.
“President Tinubu has proven that Nigeria is capable of engaging effectively across different geopolitical blocs, drawing from historic ties while advancing present-day national interests,” he said.
He added, “His decisions are well thought out, timely, and strategically driven. Certainly, history will judge him favourably.”
The senator further explained that Nigeria’s foreign policy direction aligns with the ideals of the United Nations, particularly in promoting peace, cooperation, and sustainable growth.
He maintained that stronger partnerships with countries like the United Kingdom would further position Nigeria as a stabilising influence in Africa and a credible participant in global affairs.
Ibrahim stressed that the visit was far from a routine diplomatic exercise, but rather a deliberate move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global relevance and advancing its foreign policy agenda.
