Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His decision was conveyed in a letter dated April 3, 2026, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”
In the letter, Yusuf stated his plan to vie for the seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, noting that his ambition followed extensive consultations.
He said his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to effective leadership and promote both infrastructural and human capital development within the constituency.
Yusuf also appealed for the support of party stakeholders, expressing optimism that his candidacy would attract the needed backing to succeed.
The development was confirmed by a former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a post on his X handle, where he noted that the move came after wide consultations with key stakeholders.
The declaration comes shortly after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State reportedly endorsed Yusuf as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.
The endorsement was said to have been reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the decision as a collective agreement, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and acceptability among party members.
He added that the stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda ahead of the 2027 elections.
