A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said he is consulting widely over his political future, insisting that no final decision has been taken regarding his next move.
Kwankwaso disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, amid growing speculation about a possible realignment within the African Democratic Congress.
He acknowledged ongoing engagements with leaders of the National Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party, noting that the consultations are part of efforts to determine a viable political direction.
“We have commenced wide-ranging consultations… to explore the best options for protecting our democratic interests. A decision will be communicated in due course,” he said.
The former Kano State governor attributed the uncertainty within the ADC to lingering legal disputes, despite a recent Supreme Court ruling which affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee while returning aspects of the matter to a lower court.
According to him, the situation has further worsened following a Federal High Court judgment that nullified the party’s recent convention, as well as moves by the Attorney General of the Federation to seek the deregistration of the party.
Kwankwaso likened the development to the legal challenges that forced his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, describing the current situation in the ADC as similarly precarious.
On the 2027 presidential election, the former governor dismissed claims linking him to any ambition, stating that he had neither declared interest nor endorsed any aspirant.
He reiterated his history of party loyalty, recalling his participation in the 2014 All Progressives Congress presidential primary, where he finished second behind Muhammadu Buhari, and later supported the eventual winner.
Kwankwaso also referenced the 2019 Peoples Democratic Party primary, where he contested before backing Atiku Abubakar after the exercise.
He maintained that the ADC has yet to take a position on zoning or candidate selection, stressing that ongoing speculations about his ambition remain premature.

The former governor further clarified that his absence from recent party stakeholders’ meetings was due to prior engagements, adding that he had duly informed the leadership.
Kwankwaso assured that consultations would continue, promising that any decision on his political future would be formally communicated at the appropriate time.
