The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has achieved a significant academic milestone with the National Universities Commission (NUC) granting official approval for the reintroduction of its management degree programmes.
This development, which follows a successful NUC Resource Assessment Visit to the proposed courses, paves the way for the university to broaden its academic offerings and commence admissions into these popular fields.
The approved undergraduate programmes fall under the university’s College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS) and are set to commence with the 2025/2026 Academic Session.
The newly reinstated courses include: B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Banking and Finance, B.Sc. Business Administration and B.Sc. Economics.
In addition to the undergraduate courses, the NUC also approved the newly introduced M.Sc. Agroecology programme.
The approval marks the return of these programmes eight years after they were suspended during the 2017/2018 Academic Session. The suspension followed a Federal Government directive that restricted management science courses in universities primarily focused on agriculture.
In a statement confirming the approval, the university, through the Acting Head of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, noted that running management science courses is an acceptable global practice that complements the university’s core agricultural mandate.
The management science departments—which include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, and Entrepreneurial Studies—already hold full NUC accreditation, validating the academic rigor of the returning programmes.
