A seven-year-old girl, Rukayya Muhammad, has been left permanently blind in Bauchi State after her 17-year-old elder brother allegedly conspired with six other individuals to remove her eyes for a suspected money ritual.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the primary suspect, Auwal Dahiru, of Bayan Dutse, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA, and five of his alleged accomplices. The brutal attack occurred on October 17, 2025.
According to the police, the victim’s father, Muhammad Adamu, reported that his daughter was attacked with the intent to kill her and remove her eyes. Preliminary investigations revealed that Auwal Dahiru, the girl’s brother, lured his sister into the bush where the heinous act took place as part of a desperate attempt to acquire wealth through occult means.
The five other suspects arrested have been identified as Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43), all of Soro town.
The victim was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi. A medical eye specialist has since confirmed that Rukayya Muhammad has suffered permanent loss of her eyesight.
All suspects have voluntarily confessed to their involvement in the crime. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a diligent and professional investigation to establish the full motive and ensure all involved are brought to justice.
