The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has voiced strong objections to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s recent statewide “Thank You” tour, describing it as needless after he held sway for two years as the substantive governor of Ondo State, citing a lack of essential services during his two-year tenure.
The PDP, in a statement by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande T. Ajayi, expressed that, at this juncture, the Governor should be showcasing completed projects rather than distributing #10,000 handouts, which they believe undermines the dignity of Ondo residents. “Our people are not beggars and Ondo State is not a charity home,” stated the party.
After two years in office, the Governor is called upon to account for the billions of naira received by the state, including federal allocations, internally generated revenue, and special intervention funds. The party insists that what the people of Ondo truly deserve are functional schools, well-equipped hospitals, motorable roads, job opportunities, and a revitalized economy—not merely envelopes and handouts that disguise governance failures.
Concerns are mounting as public schools, healthcare facilities, and roads deteriorate across the state, while civil servants and pensioners continue to endure harsh economic conditions. “These are the issues crying for attention, not staged tours and festive rhetoric,” the PDP emphasized.
The party highlighted a significant disconnect between the Governor’s announcements and actual project completion. “None of these projects is up to twenty percent completion, with the slowest execution pace Ondo State has witnessed in its recent history,” they noted. Governance has been criticized as overly focused on public relations and hollow rhetoric, abandoning genuine developmental efforts.
The PDP reaffirmed that Ondo residents deserve quality governance instead of what they term “charity politics.” They demanded explanations from the Governor regarding stalled projects, the absence of contractors, and the ongoing decline of public infrastructure despite consistent funding.
“This tour, as currently presented, reveals a government that has lost direction, misplaced priorities, and failed to grasp the real mandate of leadership,” the statement concluded. “Ondo State cannot be governed with handouts and hollow speeches. We demand accountability, results, and genuine governance.”
