Nigeria took a deserved 1–0 lead over Uganda at half-time in their final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.
The Super Eagles controlled much of the opening half, dominating possession and creating the better chances against a Ugandan side that struggled to cope with Nigeria’s attacking pace.
The breakthrough arrived in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu redeemed an earlier missed opportunity by stretching to turn in a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru after a quick attacking move. The goal gave Nigeria the advantage and maintained their flawless run in the group stage.
Nigeria continued to push for a second goal, with Dele-Bashiru again heavily involved, driving into the penalty area but failing to release Samuel Chukwueze under pressure from Ugandan defenders.
Uganda faced further concern when goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango twice received treatment for a suspected ankle injury. Despite the scare, he was cleared to continue the match, easing worries among Ugandan fans.
Earlier in the game, Victor Osimhen tested Onyango with a powerful low strike, which the goalkeeper parried before the assistant referee flagged the move for offside.
Defensively, Nigeria were also tested early, with Fulham defender Calvin Bassey picking up a booking in the fourth minute following a foul on Ikpeazu, leaving him at risk of suspension later in the tournament.
At the interval, Nigeria remained firmly in control, holding a narrow but well-earned lead as they looked to seal another group-stage victory.
