Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a minor reshuffle in the State Executive Council, resulting in the redeployment of key officials.
Under the new arrangement, Christopher Green, who previously served as Commissioner for Sports, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Justice as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The development was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, in Port Harcourt.
According to the statement, Green will continue to oversee activities at the Ministry of Sports until a new commissioner is appointed.
Sirawoo noted that the redeployment takes immediate effect, following the governor’s approval at the last State Executive Council meeting of 2025. The move, he said, reflects Fubara’s commitment to strengthening governance, maintaining service continuity, and enhancing performance across ministries.
The reshuffle comes amid growing political tension in the state, following recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike. Wike had declared that full political activities would resume in the state by January 2026, while accusing Fubara of failing to keep political agreements.
Rivers State has been without a substantive Attorney-General since the exit of Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, who left the cabinet after a Supreme Court judgment recognised Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Governor Fubara currently works with eight commissioners who were screened and confirmed by the Amaewhule-led House before the state’s political crisis deepened.
