Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim, just 14 months after his appointment at Old Trafford, the club confirmed on Monday.
In a statement released by the club, United said the decision was taken after careful consideration of the team’s current position in the Premier League.
“With Manchester United currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly concluded that this is the appropriate time to make a change,” the statement read.
Amorim, who joined the club amid high expectations, departs following a run of inconsistent performances that have raised concerns about the team’s long-term direction.
The Portuguese coach was in charge for 14 months, overseeing a mixed spell that included notable victories but also disappointing results against key rivals.
