Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has dismissed the leadership credentials of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning his capacity to govern Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists on Friday in Abuja, Akume argued that Obi’s record as a former governor of Anambra State does not inspire confidence in his ability to manage the complexities of Nigeria.
“If Peter Obi could not rescue Anambra as governor, how can he talk about rescuing 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory?” Akume queried.
He stressed that unlike Obi, President Bola Tinubu embodies inclusive leadership by maintaining unity across religious and cultural divides. “President Tinubu is a Muslim, yet he is at peace with Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists alike. Nigeria is on the move, and under his guidance, we will reach the promised land,” he added.
Akume further defended Tinubu’s economic stewardship, insisting that despite inheriting a struggling economy, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has now grown by 4.4 percent.
“What exactly are people talking about when they say they want to rescue Nigeria? For those who claim to be rescuers, many couldn’t even conquer their own states, so how can they lead the entire nation?” he stated.
