Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what political analysts describe as a major shake-up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Arise TV, Governor Diri’s defection comes alongside 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, marking one of the biggest political shifts in the South-South region in recent months.
The move comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, also announced his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC — a development that underscores growing political realignments across key states.
Although official details remain sketchy, sources within the Bayelsa Government House suggest that Governor Diri and the lawmakers are expected to make a formal declaration of their defection in the coming days.
The wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC has intensified in recent weeks, as several state and federal lawmakers continue to realign their political interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
