The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied claims suggesting he is nursing a presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such reports as “baseless fabrications from idle minds.”
In a statement released on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the former Rivers State governor emphasized his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his political allegiance remains with the President through 2031.
“The Minister has made it clear where he stands as far as the 2027 presidential election is concerned — he is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olayinka stated.
“Wike does not operate in secrecy. He says what he means and means what he says. Those spreading falsehoods about his ambitions are simply engaging in childish mischief.”
Olayinka clarified that the only meeting held on August 20, 2025, was a gathering of PDP stakeholders from the southern region, and not a strategic consultation to push Wike’s candidacy as reported in some media outlets.
He explained that the meeting addressed internal zoning discussions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was publicly acknowledged in a press release titled “Re: Purported Meeting Of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit.”
The statement listed notable signatories including Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Abraham Amah (Abia), Barr. Venatius Ikem (Cross River), Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan (Akwa Ibom), and Aaron Chukwuemeka (Rivers), alongside several national officers and lawmakers such as Hon. O.K. Chinda, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and Senator George Sekibo.
“Their attempt to twist the facts for political gain is unfortunate,” Olayinka added. “The FCT Minister’s political stance is not hidden — he stands solidly behind Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and re-election bid.”
Wike’s reaffirmation of loyalty to Tinubu comes amid growing speculation within the PDP that some southern leaders are pushing for alternative power alignments ahead of 2027. However, the Minister has repeatedly stated that his focus remains on supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda and delivering tangible development across the FCT.
