Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has been appointed as the new Chairman of the party’s National Convention Central Coordination Committee, replacing Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma just weeks ahead of the party’s much-anticipated national convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026.
The reorganisation was announced on Friday, in a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, and shared via the APC’s official social media handles. According to the notice, the committee was reconstituted “in further consultation with the leadership and national stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” underscoring the party’s intent to broaden involvement and strengthen internal cohesion in the run-up to the convention.
Under the revised structure, Masari, a seasoned politician and one-time Speaker of the House of Representatives and former governor of Katsina State, will lead the coordination body tasked with steering preparations for the APC’s national event, where a new National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to be elected.
Governor Uzodimma, who was initially unveiled as the Chairman of the 73-member committee only days earlier, has been reassigned to serve as Treasurer of the expanded body. The reshuffle also increases the committee’s size from 73 to 90 members, with several senior party figures introduced to the team.
Among the key appointments announced alongside Masari’s elevation: Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim (Vice Chairman I), Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Vice Chairman II), Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni (Secretary).
These leadership roles reflect a blend of political experience and regional representation.
The statement added that sub-committees of the Central Coordination Committee will be constituted and announced in due course, signalling a phased approach to organising the party’s internal processes ahead of its pivotal convention.
Observers suggest the repositioning of Masari, a prominent APC elder statesman, could be aimed at fortifying the party’s organisational footing and ensuring smoother coordination across the country’s geopolitical zones ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
As the APC continues its preparations, all eyes will now be on how the newly constituted committee manages the convention agenda, particularly the logistics, zoning considerations, and contestation for party offices that will shape the party’s leadership in the run-up to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
