The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has hit back at human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), urging him to verify his facts before commenting on public matters.
Wike made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
The minister’s response followed criticism from Falana, who faulted Wike for declaring a public holiday and imposing a curfew in Abuja ahead of the recently concluded FCT Area Council polls.
“With all due respect, Femi Falana must not always comment just because he wants to comment,” Wike said.
“Comment on something you know about and have facts on. You can’t just wake up, hear somebody said something, and not verify before making comments.”
Wike clarified that the movement restriction was authorised by President Tinubu following a security report warning of plans to bring hoodlums into the capital.
“It was Mr President’s approval that movements should be restricted because of a security report that people were trying to bring in hoodlums,” he said.
“It is not everything you must comment on. And if you must comment, go and find out what actually happened.“
