Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has described former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a “tyrant” and an “oppressor,” warning that the former governor would inflict greater hardship if given another chance to hold political office.
In a post on X, Adeyanju criticised El-Rufai’s record while in office, saying the ex-governor was harsh toward critics and showed little tolerance for dissent.
“El-Rufai is an unrepentant tyrant and oppressor. If granted another opportunity to access power, he will act worse than he did in the past,” Adeyanju wrote.
He also attacked those supporting El-Rufai, describing them as “hungry and unprincipled politicians willing to grab power at all costs.”
Adeyanju cited the arrest of Islamic cleric Sheikh Bello Yabo during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of El-Rufai’s alleged intolerance.
According to him, the former governor allegedly deployed police from Kaduna to Sokoto on the eve of Sallah to detain the cleric after he criticised the government.
“The current oppressors of El-Rufai are far gentler than he was to his critics. He is now receiving the karma he deserves,” Adeyanju added.
