Residents of the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring Niger State have been gripped by anxiety following reports of a planned attack on key government facilities by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters.
Intelligence reports indicate that potential targets include the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Kuje Custodial Centre and a military detention facility in Niger State.
Security sources suggested that the alleged plot may be aimed at securing the release of detained insurgents held in correctional centres.
A source within the Nigeria Customs Service confirmed the existence of a circulating security memo but declined to provide details, describing it as an internal communication not meant for public dissemination.

The development has heightened concerns over security in the nation’s capital, amid recurring warnings of possible attacks.
However, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has assured residents that Abuja remains safe, urging the public to remain calm and vigilant.
