The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called for the trial of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over issues surrounding the Offa robbery case, urging that due process be allowed to take its course.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olawale Babatunde, the APC criticised recent remarks by the Peoples Democratic Party and Saraki, describing them as attempts to misrepresent ongoing legal proceedings.
The party maintained that matters before the court should not be subjected to public debate, insisting that judicial processes must be respected.
According to the statement, the court remains the appropriate platform for establishing facts, stressing that individuals who are certain of their innocence should have no reservations about facing trial.
It added that the issue should not be politicised, noting that explanations ought to be presented before the court rather than through media engagements.
The APC also dismissed Saraki’s denial of any connection to the convicted suspects, describing the claim as contentious and subject to scrutiny based on evidence already gathered by investigators.
It argued that testimonies from key witnesses would be revisited when proceedings resume, expressing confidence that the judicial process would reveal the truth.
The party further stated that the renewed debate over the case reflects wider public concerns about alleged links between political actors and criminal activities, adding that the judiciary must be allowed to function independently.
It emphasised that no individual is above the law, warning that attempts to influence public opinion would not hinder the course of justice.
The APC commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for upholding due process, irrespective of political considerations, and ensuring that legal standards are maintained.
It also lauded the administration’s performance across critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare and rural development, noting that ongoing reforms and regular payment of workers’ entitlements demonstrate commitment to governance.
The party alleged that renewed discussions around the Offa robbery case by opposition figures were aimed at distracting from the state government’s achievements.
It, however, expressed confidence that residents of the state would not be swayed, stressing that the era of political dominance and poor management of public resources had passed.
Reaffirming its stance, the APC said it would continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening security, promoting justice and sustaining development across the state.
