Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed a full investigation into allegations of N1.5 billion deductions from workers’ salaries in the state.
Yusuf issued the directive on Friday during the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The governor said the probe would focus on alleged financial infractions reportedly linked to a former Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa.
“Following the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries by the former Head of Service, I have ordered an immediate investigation into the matter,” he said.
He warned that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions, adding that any recovered funds would be returned to affected workers.
Yusuf also urged workers to remain committed to their duties, assuring them that his administration remains focused on their welfare.
“This government belongs to you and will continue to work for you. What we require is your support and dedication,” he said.
The governor further pledged to clear outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to pensioners in the state.
According to him, the administration has already paid N32 billion out of the N48 billion liabilities inherited from the previous government, with plans to settle the remaining balance before the end of his tenure in 2027.
Earlier in his remarks, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kabir Inuwa, commended the government for consistent payment of salaries and pension obligations.

However, he called for urgent attention to disparities in salary structures between state and local government workers.
Inuwa also urged the government to ensure a thorough investigation into the alleged salary deductions and recovery of any diverted funds if the claims are confirmed.
