The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Monday as a faction of the party aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, announced a 13-member caretaker committee to steer its affairs.
The committee, chaired by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, was ratified during the faction’s 103rd National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja.
The decision followed a motion moved by Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by an ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
Also named in the committee is Taofeek Arapaja, who will serve as National Secretary, alongside other members including Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi and Okechukwu Obiechina.
The development confirms earlier indications that the Makinde-backed bloc would install Turaki to lead a transitional structure as part of efforts to address the party’s internal crisis.
The latest move is expected to further shape the ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP, with rival factions jostling for control ahead of future political activities.
