The African Democratic Congress has postponed its presidential and governorship screening exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026, amid ongoing preparations by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party announced the development in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the screening exercise, initially scheduled to hold this weekend, was rescheduled without specifying the reasons for the adjustment.
“The African Democratic Congress wishes to inform all presidential and governorship aspirants that the party’s screening exercise earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to Monday, May 18, 2026,” the statement read.
The opposition party also disclosed that screening arrangements had been reviewed for some National Assembly aspirants from parts of Northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.
It stated that the affected aspirants would now be screened in Abuja to ensure a smooth and secure exercise.
“Furthermore, due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers’ aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” the statement added.
The ADC assured aspirants that those affected by the changes would be contacted directly and furnished with fresh schedules and other relevant details.

The party apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and appealed for understanding from aspirants and stakeholders.
The development comes as political parties intensify internal consultations, screenings and mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ADC, which has continued to position itself as a major opposition platform, has in recent months increased political engagements and consultations across the country amid ongoing political realignments.
