The City Boy Movement has distanced itself from Adepoju Babatunde Salako following reports linking him to the organisation amid allegations of fraud and a reported conviction in the United States.
The group, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, described claims circulating on social media and other online platforms suggesting Salako was affiliated with the movement as false and misleading.
The statement was signed by the organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi.
According to the group, Salako had never been a member, official or representative of the movement in any capacity.
The organisation said the clarification became necessary after attempts were allegedly made to associate Salako with the movement over criminal proceedings reportedly involving fraud-related offences in the United States.
“Mr. Adepoju Babatunde Salako is not a member of the City Boy Movement and has never held any office, appointment or official position whatsoever within the structure of the movement at the national, zonal, state, diaspora or international level,” the statement read.
The movement further stated that Salako was never authorised to act on its behalf as a coordinator, campaign official, spokesperson, mobilisation officer or representative in the United States or any other country.
It stressed that it was completely dissociating itself from Salako and from any publication seeking to establish a relationship between him and the organisation.
The group also alleged that efforts to link Salako to the movement formed part of attempts to tarnish the image of pro-President Bola Tinubu support groups and the ruling progressive bloc.
The organisation urged the public to disregard the reports and rely only on official statements issued by its recognised leadership.
