The Office of the National Security Adviser has called on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to forward any proof supporting his claim of a toxic chemical purchase to the Department of State Services for proper scrutiny.
The security office, led by Nuhu Ribadu, was responding to allegations by El-Rufai that it procured about 10 kilogrammes of thallium sulphate, a dangerous chemical substance reportedly sourced from a Polish supplier.
Thallium sulphate is widely regarded as a highly poisonous, colourless and odourless compound that can be fatal even in minimal quantities.
El-Rufai had publicly alleged that the ONSA was behind the purported transaction and demanded immediate clarification over the issue.
In its official reply, the ONSA dismissed the accusation, insisting that it neither purchased nor commenced any process to acquire the substance and had no plan to do so.
The office further disclosed that the allegation had been handed over to the DSS for a detailed investigation, urging El-Rufai and any other individuals with relevant information to make such evidence available to aid the probe.
A report by TheCable indicated that an initial attempt to deliver the response letter to El-Rufai’s Abuja residence was unsuccessful, as security personnel reportedly declined to receive it in the absence of their superior officer.
The letter was later successfully delivered on Sunday, with the head of security signing to acknowledge receipt on behalf of the former governor.
The correspondence, dated February 13, 2026, was signed by Brigadier-General O.M. Adesuyi for the National Security Adviser. It confirmed receipt of El-Rufai’s earlier letter dated February 11, 2026, seeking clarification on the alleged chemical procurement.
The ONSA also noted that information about the supposed transaction was said to be available to opposition figures, adding that the DSS would invite all concerned parties to provide relevant details to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
