Ekiti State Governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday flagged off his re-election campaign across the 16 local government areas of the state, pledging sustained development through policy continuity.
The governor commenced the campaign in Ikole Ekiti and Oye Ekiti, where he told supporters that his administration had fulfilled key campaign promises over the past three and a half years and would build on its achievements if re-elected.
Oyebanji stressed that continuity in governance remained critical to consolidating gains in infrastructure, security and social development, noting that his second term would deepen ongoing reforms and projects.
“Our state stands to benefit greatly from continuity in policies and programmes. We have laid a solid foundation and will expand on it,” he said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed June 20 for the governorship election in the state, with 13 political parties expected to participate.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor cautioned against electoral violence, urging residents to embrace peaceful conduct before, during and after the polls.
“Do not associate with those who promote violence. Let your votes speak for you,” he advised.
He also expressed appreciation to residents of Ikole and Oye for their support, assuring them of more dividends of democracy in areas such as infrastructure, electricity, education, water supply and road development.
Oyebanji noted that security in the state had improved significantly under his administration, adding that stability was key to attracting development.
“We have made progress in tackling insecurity, and we will continue to strengthen our efforts. Development thrives where there is peace,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, commended the governor’s performance, describing it as impactful across key sectors.
He urged voters to support Oyebanji’s re-election bid, expressing confidence that the administration would deliver more benefits if given another mandate.
A youth leader in Ikole Local Government Area, Valentine David, also praised the governor’s initiatives, particularly in youth development, agriculture and education, pledging support for his second term ambition.
The campaign is expected to continue across other local government areas as political activities intensify ahead of the June 20 election.
