Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says he is not preoccupied with reports suggesting former President Goodluck Jonathan may be joining the 2027 presidential contest.
Obi spoke with journalists in Abuja shortly after his screening exercise before the party’s selection panel.
According to him, democratic participation should not be reduced to a contest of personalities, but a service-driven process focused on national renewal.
“Democracy is about people offering themselves for service and being voted for. I’m not in any way going around looking at who is contesting. I’m concentrating on how to build a better Nigeria,” he said.
He stressed that his political focus remained on rebuilding the country into a united and prosperous nation where opportunity is not determined by background or connections.
“My priority ahead of the 2027 presidential election is to build a united, secure and prosperous Nigeria through inclusive governance anchored on the constitutional principle of federal character,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor further said Nigeria must urgently address insecurity and restore public confidence in daily life across the country.
“Nigeria must become secure enough for citizens to move freely without fear, while families should no longer live in anxiety over insecurity and killings,” he added.
