The Nigeria Democratic Congress has concluded its primary elections in Oyo State, producing candidates for the governorship, National Assembly and Oyo State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, held at the party’s temporary state secretariat in Ibadan, drew delegates, party leaders and supporters from across the state, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies monitored the process.
At the end of the primaries, Hon. Akim Yussuf Adebola, popularly known as Omoluabi, emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking after his emergence, Adebola pledged to focus on job creation, quality education, agricultural transformation, industrial development and youth empowerment if elected governor.
He said Oyo State possesses enormous human and natural resources that should be effectively harnessed to stimulate economic growth and improve the living standards of residents, particularly young people.
The NDC governorship candidate also expressed concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, urging security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts towards securing their safe release.
In her remarks, the Oyo State Chairman of the NDC, Princess Oyeronke Bolajoko, commended party members for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.
She described the successful completion of the primaries as evidence of the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy and credible leadership.
The party also produced candidates for the three senatorial districts. Pastor Mrs. Abigail Olanike Ojekunle secured the ticket for Oyo North Senatorial District, while Dr. Paul Oche Adoyi emerged as the candidate for Oyo South. Mr. Akeem Salawu was announced as the party’s flagbearer for Oyo Central Senatorial District.
Candidates also emerged for various House of Representatives and State Assembly seats.
Party leaders expressed confidence that the successful conduct of the primaries has positioned the NDC for a vigorous campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
