Oriyomi Hamzat, chief executive officer of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, has formally joined the Accord Party and declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
Hamzat made the announcement on Saturday during a political rally held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, where he addressed supporters and party members.
The media entrepreneur said his decision to venture into partisan politics was not premeditated, explaining that he was motivated by what he described as a divine instruction to serve the people.
He stated that unlike previous elections where he supported other aspirants, he has now resolved to personally seek the governorship ticket on the platform of the Accord Party.
“I never thought I would belong to a political party or contest an election. I have always stood behind candidates, but God has directed me differently,” Hamzat said.
Declaring his candidacy, he noted that he lacks financial power, political godfathers or government backing, stressing that his campaign would be driven by faith and the support of ordinary people.
Hamzat attributed his widespread popularity to years of advocating for the poor and oppressed through his media platform, adding that his governorship ambition is aimed at translating that advocacy into concrete development for Oyo State.
He said his administration, if elected, would focus on delivering meaningful projects and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
